"When are you interviewing Haim?" a message pops up. "I was hoping to ask if I can be their fourth member."

However, there remains a key snag: I also longs to be Haim's newest recruit. Furthermore, we are in plentiful company. Multiple famous fans have publicly begged for the role.

The evidence suggests something is going on. Sisters Este, Danielle and Alana started their path doing sets at small eateries with their family. Now they're multiple Grammy Award hopefuls.

Similar to the most iconic ensembles, they're a tight-knit trio. Their visuals often show them striding in unison down the avenues of Los Angeles. On stage, they play with such pure exuberance you find yourself thinking, "I want to be part of that, too."

"The numerous instances on tour that audience members came up to us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I picked up a bass'," says Alana, the most junior of the sisters. "That is the ultimate compliment. It is a prize in itself. Our mission is accomplished if we can inspire others to start a band."

"So anyone are welcome to be the next part of the family."

Award Milestone

The group are connecting from a break, where they're resting up after an lengthy tour in promoting their fourth album, I Quit.

They're right now reeling from the news it's been nominated for a top rock honor at the Grammy Awards – with Haim the first all-woman band ever in contention for the trophy.

"I watch the announcements every year, so it sort of feels like an out-of-body experience when your name is called," explains Alana. "I immediately called my sisters to say, 'Did I hear this correctly or am I imagining things'?"

The weight of the accolade isn't lost on the trio.

"We deliberately set out to make a rock album this time, so it's a significant step," continues Alana. "Yet we're just grateful for the female artists that came before us."

Emotional Upheaval and Candor

The album was born from a phase of emotional upheaval. All three sisters were single, and the music inhabits that unique transitional period where you're relieved to be free, but not yet ready to let go.

The themes follow breakups and farewells. The sisters seek love, but not the specific love they've experienced. You can hear them determining in the moment who they aspire to be.

"That's a perfect description, yes," responds Danielle. "I Quit is kind of like a mantra. You have to actively work on ignoring the noise and saying, 'It doesn't matter to me what people think'."

Evolution of Sound

That recent confidence required a different sonic direction – more organic and powerful than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who co-produced the album, that started with the drum sound.

"Drums are such a detailed thing, and I am so passionate about it," she emphasizes.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our memoir," jokes Alana. "Our motto is, our albums won't commence until we find the ideal drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Humor

The trio's honesty shaped the album's promotional campaign, where the sisters disclosed some of their romantic tales.

A former partner broke up with Este over a health concern. Alana shared a story of flying to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a friendly slap at midnight.

"During these heartbreaks, you just feel like there's no hope," explains Alana. "So to be able to laugh at those stories and hear others tell you more outrageous stories, it's so amazing."

An Assured Path

It's not difficult sense a shift in the band. Now, Haim are more assured of their standing in the music world.

They're major draws, with successful albums and an worldwide fan base.

However the sister act will always be their top commitment.

"We have been playing music since I was a young child," shares Alana. "It's like no other path that we were supposed to do. And I'm really thankful we've gotten here and we're still making music."
