The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session. The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight. The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
